
Sewer backups and overflows are typically the result of grease buildup which can cause property damage, environmental problems and other health hazards. The easiest way to solve grease problems and help prevent overflows is to keep fats, oils and grease out of the sewer system. Never pour grease down sink drains or into toilets.
Water is our most precious resources. Without water, life on earth could not exist. Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC) is committed to conserving this precious resource through its many water improvement projects. In addition, BWSC offers its customers advice and suggestions as to how they can also preserve our planet’s water.
The Conservation Tips page describes a number of methods for saving water in your home as well as outside in your garden. There are also suggestions on how we can change our personal habits to conserve water.
In addition, BWSC offers water Conservation Kits. This is a joint program with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority and BWSC that provides free water conservation kits to residents of Boston.
