Lead Sampling

11:04 AM 10/17/2025

Boston’s water quality sampling taken of 33 homes with lead service lines during the fall of 2025 sampling found elevated levels of lead in drinking water in 4 homes.  As a reminder, all of Boston’s water mains are lead free.  However, some older homes in Boston may have a lead water service line. BWSC has produced a new PSA on Lead you can find in the notice.

10/14/2025

Boston Water and Sewer Commission will commence Water Main Flushing in the Brighton area starting: October 15th, 2025, through November 12th, 2025. The boundaries for the areas being flushed are I-90 (MassPike) to the North, Border with Brookline to the South, BU Bridge to the West and Parsons St to the East.

The purpose of the Water Main Flushing Program is to improve drinking water quality for residents and businesses.

Water Main flushing will take place between the hours of 10:00 P.M. and 6:00 A.M.

The flushing process may cause discolored water and a reduction in pressure. The discoloration of the water will be temporary and is not harmful.  If the condition persists, please contact BWSC's 24 Hour Service at (617) 989-7000. BWSC appreciates your patience as we work to improve the quality of drinking water that we provide to the residents and businesses of Boston. If you have any questions, contact BWSC's Night Operations Manager at (617) 989-7000 or visit our website @ www.bwsc.org.
